    xp pro & x64 pro

I know this may seem like a real dumb question, but do i have to have xp pro installed inorder to use x64 pro. I just ordered the 120 day trial for a new amd 3700 system i am building and wanted to try before i buy. Sorry for such a stupid question but i am new to this amd and x64 bit system. I am an old intel guy who cant wait to shut the p4 3.0E chernobyl Reactor i have running or should i say glowing on my dektop.

                                Thanks for the Help

No such thing as a dumb question, unless you don't ask it. XP 64 bit Pro is a standalone OS. I've been using it exclusively for over a month now. Many things will not work with 64 bit. I had to replace my printer and sound card. Even Microsoft's own trackball optical doesn't have drivers. Once you do get finished jumping through the hoops you'll find yourself with a slightly better system. Graphics and sounds will be better and 64 bit optimized games will amaze you.

I have a dual boot setup because of my Logitech cordless web cam and my Canon Flatbed scanner. To poor to go out and replace it. So, when I want to use the camera or scanner, I jump into Windows XP Pro x86 instead. Also, my Webroot Spysweeper won't work with x64 also. So, once a week I run the scan on that in x86 mode.
