I am up-grading a 4 yr old home built machine to x64. I have installed the 64 bit OS on a new HDD and kept the old Xp OS intact on the orginal drive so I have an option to run either OS.
I am having an issue getting my scanner to run on the x64 OS. It's an HP Scanjet 4670. Hp has x64 drivers which I downloaded and installed without issues. Hp does not support this scanner with software for x-64 but indicates it will run with the built in scanner software called WIA (Windows Imaging Acquisition).
The device manager shows the scanner is installed and working properply. However, when I open WIA, I get a pop-up saying "The computer cannot detect the scanner or camera. Please make sure the device is turned on and is properly connected to the computer."
When I open Scanners and Cameras from the Control Panel, I see the scanner is installed, but when I click on scan, I get: "The scanning software could not be found, or your scanner is not connected. Please make sure your scanner and scanning software are properly installed."
Hp support has not been much help. I have uninstalled/installed the drivers mutipul times per their instructions. I have been giving conflecting directions from Hp concerning Scanner software and have installed it a couple of times and uninstalled as many per their instructions. The driver download from Hp is called Basic Software and I believe is all that is required.
The scanner works fine as installed on the 32 bit OS so I am sure this is not a hardware issue.
Thanks in advance for any help!
