    AutoCAD R14 (32-bit) in WinXP 64

Preparing for the arrival of a new 64-bit workstation (Dell T7400 Quadcore Xeon monster running WinXP Pro 64) to gain a great deal of efficiency with SolidWorks 2009 and AutoCAD 2009. Need to have the ability to run legacy AutoCAD R14, a certified 32-bit application. Because it's hard to take "No" for an answer, I thought I'd pose the question here, among what appears to be the 64-bit community of choice. I of course began my research with the publisher Autodesk but there is little to no support for the 11-year old release 14. I surfed around, Googling and Asking as I went, and eventually landed here. As I am not yet even in possession of said monster, and therefore have not attempted loading said ACAD R14, I have no idea if there will be problems, but there is great potential for disaster. The most common answer I'm getting circa Extended64 is "No, it will not fly". Being bone-headed like I am, I don't accept this at face value. The content I've read on the subject seems to be old, beyond a reasonable expiration date. Perhaps someone in the '64 realm may offer brighter, fresher insight. Much obliged in advance.

    Cheers...

If Autocad r14 runs on Win XP 32, it will have NO problems running on Win XP 64.  Maybe you might have trouble finding device drivers for Autocad - tablets, the hardware dongle, etc ... but, I am pretty sure Autocad itself won't have much problems on WinXP 64.

I have been trying to install R14 on my 64 bit and have had no luck.  This version of autocad requires no dongle.  Do you have any suggestions?

Have no fear. There's a very simple way to get AutoCAD R14 to run on your machine, so long as you have access to a 32 bit system somewhere. I found an Autodesk discussion forum on Running R14 on Vista. An entry by a guy going by jambuch was very helpful, but 70-630 exam has some information for Vista that isn't relevant to XP x64. Somebody going by wjohn posted information on how to get matchprop to work. Since you have to search a long thread to find that information, I decided to 642-661 exam condense it down here into a simple blog entry. First, here's a quick summary of the simple fix: 1. Install AutoCAD R14 onto a 32 bit system. 2. Copy 'Program Files\Mechanical' 650-251 exam from 32 bit system into a new 'Program Files (x86)\Mechanical' on your 64 bit system. 3. Copy any necessary files from 'Windows' of 32 bit system to 'Program Files (x86)\Mechanical' on 64 bit system (you'll know which files from the error messages you get when trying to run 'acad.exe').
