Symantec Products

I own Norton Internet Security 2004.  I just got a new PC with XP Pro X64 pre-installed.  For some reason NIS 2004 won't install properly, and I can't find anything on the symantec support website apart from new releases stating Symantec software will be compatable wit the new 64-bit OS.

 

I had NIS previously on a 32-bit system with XP.  I ran windows update untill there were no more updates.  Does XP Pro x64 need SP2(For the old 32-bit OS?-which doesn't make much sense to me but m3h) or is there another virus software package I can use?

 

Any suggestions are appreciated.

nis installs 32 bit drivers/winsock/services. it wont work in the x64 version of windows. the new version of nis might include support for it, but i havent tried nis 2k5 on a x64 pc yet.

well if your running x64 and are trying to run anything symantec like antivirus 2005 or any of "this years" versions (2005) then you are $hit out of luck. Symantec does not run on x64 winodws at all in fact when installing the program it will flat out tell you it won't install. The only way to have protection on a x64 system is to run the corporate version of the software. Thanks symantec for making me re-buy all my f'n sofware again.

Look like I'll be doing the same and buying the corporate version.

I can vouch for the Anti virus issue.  I am using the Symatec 10.0 Business Pack.  You pay a premium since you pay for 5 licsences.  You may be able to find it from a reseller for about 200.  Try best buy business pro store online.  That's the best price I could find.  Perhaps there are better deals out there.

 

Anyway, it work just fine.
