Okay I a similar question so I'm not going to start a new thread.
I downloaded WinXP x64 from the MSDN website last week so I have a full
working version I think. My system properties shows Windows XP
Professional x64 Edition Vesion 2003 SP1. I am trying to get the
uxtheme.dll from Rafael's website working and I havent quite gotten it
down yet.
The first thing I tried is just renaming
c:\windows\system32\uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.original and copying in the
one from 6.0.3790.1830_EN_AMD64.rar. Within about 5 seconds, the
one I copied in is replaced by the old one automatically.
After that I went and tried doing the same thing in Safe Mode.
When I did it that time it looked like it worked. However when I
came back up into normal mode I got some error about the file being
invalid and checking the dll cache or something. The error kept
popping back up as soon as I clicked okay. I had to reboot back
to safe mode, replace it with the old file and reboot back normally
using the Last Known Good Configuration.
One thing I noticed when I checked is that my themes were there behind
the error message. This leads me to believe that I'm doing it
like half right. So what am I missing here? Also, what's
the second file in the RAR for (the uxtheme.dl_)? I did lots of
Google but nobody ever mentioned any of what I was seeing.
TIA,
D
