Very few games are developed for 64 bits today.  There is NO market.  You don't really need 64 bits game - just a 32 bits version is enough.  I am sorry, but, the only people qualified to answer your question will be the developers themselves.

Hi.  I'm trying to run SansaUpdaterInstall which I pretty sure is 32bit won't run in XP64.  I get the not supported error.  Am I out of luck?

Re: a way to run 32 bit programs on 64 bit?

    Hi,

Sorry for butting in like this. I have an external audio card that im trying to install and the installer that comes with it is getting rejected by my Sony Vaio with Vista 64-bit. Im considering returning my purchase (which i got off ebay, not really knowing there was this compatibility issue, silly me...) but before I do so, I just wanna confirm what you said above, that all device drivers must be 64-bit under 64-bit Vistas.

This in effect would render this audio card useless. But if not so, could you tell me if there is another way for me to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance, WTS, or to anyone who would care to provide an answer to my problem.

    Hi Ryan

bit of a novice on Windows and 64 bit (Mac guy so don't shoot me please). I have had trouble with some older software on the kids account for my 2.0 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0Ghz Acer running Windows XP Pro 64 SP3 (with all available updates I believe). Otherwise I am happy with the performance of the software and OS in general. When I have looked on the C drive there is only one Program Files (folder) in the root and not the second Program Files (x86) you describe above. Am I missing something, looking in the wrong place? Do I have to turn on some form of x86 compatibilty control panel tab somewhere before this appears?

I can email you a screen grab of C root if this helps. many thanks in advance.

Re: a way to run 32 bit programs on 64 bit?

    Just a bit more info

I've done folder properties and checked both show system files and folders and show hidden files and folders. There is still no Program Files (x86) on my primary drive (C). However, the 32 bit encapsulation must be working because I've checked a couple of old programmes and they are working but not x64 bit, e.g. Cluedo (game) from Hasbro - its a 2002 release and clearly not x64. The app is in the C Drive/ Program Folder with all my other apps..... so it looks like my X64 XP Pro has bunched everything in one folder?

PC is Acer Veriton M460. Processor is Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 and according to this page is definately x64 ref: http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=30781

    Now I'm really confused - I've run the command msinfo32.exe and the response is indicating;
OS Name MS Windows XP Professional
    System Type: X86 based
    Processor: x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 13 Genuine Intel 2194 Mhz

Does anyone have a clue what I have really got please? I paid extra for the x64bit because I wanted better performance for Photoshop and video so I will be very displeased if it turns out to be 32bit processor and/or OS version. If anyone has any constructive thoughts please reply.

    Thanks

I have a program that only works with 32 bit computers and I have a 64 bit Windows 7.  Is there what so ever, ANY way to get that program to work?  Thanks.

Re: a way to run 32 bit programs on 64 bit?

Hi,  I am having my check point vpn client, this is correctly installed and able to run on 32 bit XP. I did t check it out on 32 bit vista.

Now I am having 64 bit vista.

While installing check point vpn client, I didnt get any error and it said check point vpn is correctly installed, pls restart the machine to take effect. When I restarted and trying to access it, it was not giving any error, but nothing is happening. I checked out some forums, they were saying there was no compatible version of check point vpn for windows 64bit vista.

How can I make it work on my windows 64 bit vista? Can I install 32  bit OS on 64 bit processor so that I can make it work on check point vpn 32 bit processor.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: a way to run 32 bit programs on 64 bit?

The x64 version of Windows is not capable of natively running 32-bit code. Because most applications are 32-bit, the x64 version of Windows makes use of an emulator known as WOW64 to allow 32-bit applications to run. One of the problems with running 32-bit code on a 64-bit operating system is that the OS must maintain complete code separation. Microsoft has created a new folder named \Windows\SysWOW64 that is used to store the 32-bit DLLs. In the 32-bit version of Windows, DLL files are normally stored in the \windows\system32 folder. However, Promotional Merchandise the x64 version of Windows uses the \windows\system32 folder for 64-bit DLLs. As you can see, the WOW64 emulator must perform file system redirection in order to guarantee that 32- and 64-bit code remain separated. But keeping DLL files separated is only the beginning. The WOW64 emulator performs file system redirection for several key components of the Windows operating system.

Re: a way to run 32 bit programs on 64 bit?

    Hi Ryan Hoffman!

Thanks for all of your helpful info regarding 64/32-bit stuff. Regarding the answer of yours regarding running a very old program, I also have a question. My very favorite DOS program that works in win98SE & XPPro2003, how hard is it to create a " Virtual Machine", what is it & do I need software? If so, is there free software? I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, 6Gig Mem, 700Gig HD 7200rpm & AMD Athlon™ II X2 dual-core processor 235e (2.7GHz, 2MB L2 cache).

I love my Soleau Oil Cap Version 6.1 & 7.1 game & wonder if it is possible without too much trouble to make it work on my new computer. Thanks! Juli ;) http://www.soleau.com/dosgame.html
